Commented Issue: "Root Element is Missing" [10962]

I have used MediaScout for a while now without any issues, but now out of the blue comes this error ... "Root Element is Missing" whenever I try to process a new movie. It's not just one specific movie, it is all new additions.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

When I processed movie file and I clicked Yes to overwrite file name, file was moved to Recycle Bin and new file wasn't created.

If the file is on the network it is deleted. It can not be recovered easily. The impact is high!

If you have an existing show with mixed case, like:

Top Gear - S01E01 - Title Of Show

and you rename with a mask that will change any of the case, like:

Top Gear - S01E01 - Title of Show
Top Gear - s01e01 - Title Of Show

MediaScout preview 4 will prompt to overwrite the file and not just rename it. If you say yes to the overwrite, it actually deletes the file.

The impact is very high. The files are deleted. A tool like MediaScout should never delete a movie file.

Some seasons in tvdb use Season #'s as year... eg. http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=72514&lid=7
folder layout and downloading works for backdrops and folders but when it comes to trying to rename the media files it wont see any of the episodes.

tried naming:
s1936e18 = seen as season 19 episode 36 in the process log (Season 19 Not Found )
e18 = : Season : Unable to extract, Episode : Unable to extract
1936x18 = seen as season 36 episode 18 in the process log (Season 36 Not Found )
18 = : Season : Unable to extract, Episode : 18
s36e18 = Season 36 Not Found

None of the WD Products currently support retreiving metadata information from the TVDB, where the TV Season is greater that 2 digits in length.

This will be a problem for any TV Show with greater than 99 seasons. and as you have pointed out, is already a major problem where Years have been used ilo Seasons (as adopted by the TVDB where appropriate, with many many TV Shows just like the BBC's "Horizon" series you mention above)

A future Firmware release (Changing the API of the WD/TVDB to upto 4 digit seasons) could fix the problem."

I have been renaming all my TV Shows so that "Media Scout" (http://tvscout.codeplex.com/) can correct all the Episodes Names.
This has worked fine upto now ......... as I am trying to locate something on how to name a file that has the season of 2008 in TVDB.

My first filename is "Earth Investigated Killer Asteroid 2004-09-15"
I can find it on the TVDB @ (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid ... 9551&lid=7)
and when I run media scout over it, it says that its an invalid season. (understood)

So I tried renaming it to Earth Investigated S2004E01 - Killer Asteroid, this worked in most cases, but in this case the season was invalid again
I have tried various combinations of season and episode name but havent been able to retreive any episode names (same error - season invalid)

So I am trying to locate something on this forum to show me how I need to rename this show so that I can reference it on the TVDB.

I am using MediaScout 3.0 Preview 4. When I scrape my TV Shows many series just give "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found". This is being caused by it including the year in the search terms. If you select "Enter Search Term For Lookup" and remove the year from the search it will find the series. Some Examples of shows that have this problem are The A-Team and Better off Tedd.

The other issue is the Season numbering. My folders use one digit like "Season 1", but the shows use two digits like "Show Name - S01E01 - Episode Name.ext". If I unselected "Rename files", setting the "Season Padding" to 1 or 2 both cause the "Could not find a part of the path" error followed immediately by a crash.

When using batch processing or multiple selection processing in preview 4fanart and posters only from the first title are grabbed.
All other following titles will have the same fanart and posters from the first title.
Single selection processing is working fine for me.

The specific example I experienced with the newest version MS3 preview4 was when updating my television show data and it came to the folder called "The Cleveland Show". The program did not recognize the title and upon entering The Cleveland Show in a variety of ways I noticed that the "AND" at the end of "Cleveland" was being detected as a Boolean operator and the search it would actually do was "The Clevel, Show"

I have having this same issue with the movie title Pandorum. I tried the semicolon workaround, it didn't work, but I search it Pa-ndorum and it found it. Hope this gets fix in the newest version.

i came across this as well today.

i just found this issue ticket. What i have been doing is going to tvdb site and seeing if i can omit everything after the 'd' in and IE (Outlander = outlan) then also add the year. Seems to do the trick

a "work around" of what i have been doing is deleting all the backdrop*.jpg files from all the folders and right-clicking each move on my list and do process - with the download backdrop option only selected in the options.

Tedious but it can work for now

Came across this with "The Cleveland Show" where the AND was being parsed out of the title.

WORKAROUND: Until this is fixed, I found a hack to get this to work while I was thinking of ways to escape the character sequence. Just insert a semicolon (or probably any other non-alphanumeric character) between the "a" and the "n" so it looks like "The Clevela;nd Show". MediaScout is apparently able to match this correctly against TVDB.

I'm using the newest version and it crashes when ever i try to process any movie or tv show. I noticed there wasn't a source code zip. So i can't run in debug and give you a copy of why. I saw something in the update about a crash log. I can't find it.

i'm using windows 7 64 bit.

I had this happen when I processed one of my TV folders. Seemed to do renaming alright, problem appears to be if the file it is attempting to rename is exactly the same except with amended capitalisation. If that is the case then it prompts you to accept overwriting of the file, then errors saying it can't find the file and the file in question becomes deleted. I am running win7x64 ultimate with v3.0 preview 4.
